A chatroom for women that have been affected by gambling-related harms is set to be launched on Saturday 12th September by GamCare. This is the first of its kind and will be open to anyone who identifies as female as part of the group’s daily support sessions programme.
What Can We Expect from this New GamCare Chatroom?
This is a fantastic initiative from GamCare that women can access via their website. It will be a place for them to share their story, chat to others with similar experiences and connect with peers, as well as getting help and support.
This new chatroom has been created in response to an NHS and GambleAware report that found women who were experiencing gambling related harm had more anxiety and stigma around getting the help that they needed.
What Did GamCare Have to Say?
GamCare released a statement highlighting that women are disproportionately impacted by gambling related harms and that this encompasses everything from financial issues and relationship issues to mental health issues. They also noted that this chatroom was not just for women who had a problem with gambling, but also for women impacted through a partner, friend or family member with a gambling problem.
GamCare noted that it will carry on developing its Women’s Programme and that its work with the public sector and third sector organisations will continue too. The aim is to spread awareness of gambling harms nationwide and reach as many women as possible.
