It’s hoped that a brand-new bingo club will be able to open in Oxford early next year.
The announcement follows the application for a bingo licence by Club 3000 to move into the Kassam Leisure Complex in February 2021.
Club 3000 currently owns 19 bingo clubs across England, Wales, and Scotland, including venues in Bristol, Preston, Glenrothes, Cardiff, Blackpool, and Ellesmere Port.
The operator has already listed the Kassam site on the “Clubs” page of its website as “COMING SOON”.
The Kassam is Oxford’s largest venue for conferences, meetings, exhibitions, and events while its leisure complex used to include a VUE cinema, Hollywood Bowl, Park Club Gym, Buzz Bingo, and other bars and restaurants.
However, since Buzz Bingo closed its Kassam club (along with a string of other clubs) in July, one of the leisure complex’s prime sites has remained empty.
Club 3000 hope to completely refurbish the club to offer “bingo lovers a fantastic new experience” while also bringing “much-needed jobs to the local area during this very challenging time”.
As the county of Oxfordshire is currently home to just four licensed bingo venues, the addition of Club 3000 would, no doubt, be very welcome.
It also looks as though the Kassam Leisure Complex club may well open before the new Club 3000 site at Blackpool’s Festival Leisure Park, the latter of which was originally planned to open in the summer of 2020.
Club 3000’s original proposals to build a site as part of the Festival Leisure Park’s redevelopment were rejected by the local council due to concerns over the loss of 100+ parking spaces and the demolition of a local pub. However, the council’s decision was overturned in July 2019, and building work on the £7m bingo hall finally began in May 2020. Club 3000 are telling their members to “watch this space for more updates”.
