As one of the biggest and busiest cities in Scotland, Glasgow is normally heaving with excited shoppers during December. However, if Coronavirus is still at large towards the end of the year, many high streets are likely to see their profits slump due to more people shopping online in the safety and warmth of their own homes.
That being said, the organisers of the Winter Festival hope that Glaswegians will still be able to look forward to a very merry Christmas, as this year’s festive event will be held as a socially-distanced, drive-in festival.
The festival gets underway on 16th December 2020 and runs right up until Christmas Eve. Its organisers are hailing it a “gloom-busting programme of films, party shows, and family events”, and there’ll even be some bingo thrown in!
There will be plenty of space for those who wish to attend as the festival will be held at Skyport Airport Parking near Glasgow Airport.
One of the highlights is the city’s first “Parking Lot Panto”, Cinderella, which we’re told will feature some unique drive-in-themed twists.
All the action will be captured by a live film crew and broadcast onto two 40-foot TV screens. From the audience’s perspective, everything will be contactless as they will be able to interact with the festival’s various events such as car-a-oke and Party Bingo without having to leave their vehicles. In addition, local food companies will be present for customers who wish to enjoy a mug of hot chocolate, a gourmet burger or a wood-fired pizza, all of which can be delivered directly to their car.
Glasgow Winter Festival’s “Big Weekender” is one of the most interactive events, and will feature Party Bingo hosted by Father Christmas, live cam car-a-oke, a silent disco, and an interactive quiz.
Plus, just when you thought that things couldn’t get any better, there’s set to be a festive firework finale at the end of each night!
