If you weren’t enjoying a lie-in, going to work or heading off for a day out with the family on Friday, 3rd July, you may have spotted an unexpected guest on TV.
At 10am on ITV’s “This Morning” with Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes, viewers were invited to watch as the show’s hosts went head-to-head in a live game of bingo being held at Mecca Bingo in Oldbury ahead of the club’s grand reopening the following day.
Alison Hammond was tasked with acting as the bingo caller and she had Ruth and Eamonn stamp their bingo cards as the numbers were announced.
Alison showed her expertise by using popular bingo lingo terms such as Number 4 – Knock at the Door and Number 1 – Kelly’s Eye and she even had Eamonn on the edge of his seat as he told her, “I just need one more Alison!”
Sadly for Eamonn, his wife (Ruth) pipped him to the finishing post. Despite their bingo no prize on offer, Ruth could be seen dancing around the set while shouting, “Yes, yes. Bingo, bingo!”
The ITV show’s viewers were particularly impressed with Alison Hammond’s efforts calling the numbers, with many taking to Twitter to congratulate her on her ball-calling skills.
While the bingo game was underway, Mecca Bingo’s social media team on Facebook invited its followers to play along for fun by taking a screenshot of a video to earn a unique bingo card.
Mecca has also been running other competitions and events in the last few weeks, including £20,000 Feature Fridays which are £500 games packed with exciting features, plus two linked games of £1,000 and £2,000.
The popular bingo brand also celebrated opening 35 of its UK clubs on 4th July and asked customers to use contactless payments where possible. It confirmed that its remaining clubs will begin opening from August 2020.
