Mecca Bingo’s Wakefield club and its members enjoyed a big celebration last weekend following the reopening of the venue after a nearby fire.
To welcome players back to the popular venue, the club’s management put on a complimentary spread and a no charge game of bingo on Saturday, 15th February. Members who attended the relaunch were also treated to a glass of fizz.
The club was forced to close for five days after a devastating fire broke out at Speedibake’s factory in Colinsway, Wakefield on 1st February. More than 100 firefighters were required to tackle the blaze. However, West Yorkshire Fire Service has since confirmed that the building will need to be demolished as it was completely gutted by the inferno.
The factory is situated in Westgate Retail Park, adjacent to Mecca Bingo, and the club’s management made the decision to temporarily close its doors so that they could check that the internal and external environment was fully functional and safe.
As the General Manager, Mel Kassim, says, “safety needed to be our main priority” despite being “very upset” at having to turn its valued members away. She adds that the local firefighters “did an amazing job on the day”, and that the club is looking forward to getting back to business as usual.
Mecca Bingo in Wakefield has another special occasion for its players to enjoy this March. On Saturday, 28th March 2020, Boyz on Block will be taking to the stage to perform some of their best-known hits as part of an exclusive Mecca Bingo tour.
The band feature Shane from Boyzone, Abz from 5ive, Dane from Another Level, and Ben from Phats & Small.
The event will include bingo games, dancing, and a live performance from Boyz on Block as well as a support act. The band will also be appearing at other Mecca Bingo clubs including Birkenhead, Stockton-on-Tees, and Douglasfield.
