Bingo fans living in Hampshire have been left hugely disappointed by the news that one of their favourite clubs is due to close in May 2020.
Crown Bingo in Gosport has been operating for over 50 years. However, the owners of the club have recently confirmed that its doors will open for the final time on Sunday, 3rd May.
One of the club’s 17 employees has been working there for 34 years, and many of the customers have been attending regular bingo sessions for over a decade. One such player is 59-year-old Kim Collins who’s been visiting the hall along with members of her family for the past 14 years.
Kim admits that the number of players has been steadily dwindling but that the remaining customers choose to stay loyal to the club as “it is like a community and everyone knows each other”.
She’s concerned that the hall’s closure will affect some of the town’s older bingo fans who enjoy the social aspect of the games. Kim adds that Gosport will be left with no entertainment when the Crown Bingo hall shuts this May.
Crown Bingo also operates an online bingo site as well as land-based halls in Cosham, Bognor Regis, and Leigh Park. Currently, its clubs open 7 days a week offering free membership, the chance to win “big cash prizes”, state-of-the-art electronic bingo games, and full bars and food facilities.
The news of the planned Gosport club closure was announced on Crown’s Facebook page late last week. The operator describes the step as a “difficult decision” and wishes to thank its staff and loyal members for their continued support.
At the time of writing, the post has attracted almost 325 comments from players who say that they are “absolutely gutted” and will miss the friendly and welcoming staff.
